Located in Onnason, a popular area for tourists in Okinawa island.
Initially a resort-like design suits to the tropical island, Okinawa was aimed.
However, the surrounding circumstance is not so ideal as a busy national road is in front of the site and a new residential area is closely behind and in a consideration with the budget, it got varied to the simple boxy shape with factory-like finishes.
Also, a car is almost the only way to travel in Okinawa, the characteristic facade design which can be recognized in a moment was essential.
Several ways to achieve the largest area with a one storey building within the budget had been studied. But they couldn’t be somehow so nice and the idea had come up that reducing the building area and expanding the space vertically instead, so that it can has 2 storey ceiling and attic-like room.
Such variations in space will be attractive even with very simple finishes.
The interior has been completed with the hand-drawn giant cow on a wall.
沖縄本島の中でも観光地として人気のある恩納村に位置する。
当初は南国沖縄らしいリゾート感のあるデザインをということで始まったが、
前面は交通量の多い国道58号線、後ろは新興住宅地と、海は近いが理想的な周辺環境ということでは無い点や、予算も鑑みる中で、単純な箱型RCの建築を工場のような内外装でという方向性に変わっていった。
また移動がほぼ車に限られる沖縄のロードサイド店として建物自体が一目で分かるようなものを目指すこともデザインの方向性を決めていった。
予算内で目一杯の広さの平屋を取るようなスタディーを繰り返していたがなかなかしっくりこず、そんな中で、建築面積は抑える代わりに縦方向に伸ばしてやることで、吹き抜けやロフトのような場所を作ることを思いついた。
そうして空間自体の構成に大きな変化を持たせることで、仕上げは簡素なものになったとしても空間としての魅力を持たせられると考た。
シンプルな素材選びの内装に最後はクライアントのアイディアを元に巨大な牛の絵が壁に描かれて仕上がりとなった。
